TPS VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS
The Toronto Police Service honours the contributions made by volunteers and recognizes the service of volunteers as a fundamental part of every community. Each volunteer provides an invaluable service to both the Toronto Police Service and the citizens of Toronto.
The efforts of volunteers continue to impact both the individual and community, and assist the Toronto Police Service in building a relationship with the community based on mutual trust and understanding.
Whether it is to volunteer your time as an Auxiliary Officer and lend an extra hand canvassing a neighbourhood, working alongside Victim Service personnel in making a supportive telephone call to a victim of crime, or simply extending a smile to a community member at a Toronto Police Service event, volunteers make a difference.

Auxiliary Officers
Auxiliary Officers are part of a very dedicated and committed team of community volunteers who are trained both in the theoretical and practical applications of policing. Auxiliary Officers wear uniforms and are issued handcuffs and a baton.
A comprehensive training program prepares these officers for interactions with the police and the community. Auxiliary Officers are assigned to work with uniformed police officers in the Community Response Unit of 22 Division, and receive ongoing training.

Victim Services Volunteers
Victim Services provides crisis response, trauma and support services to victims of crime and sudden tragic circumstances 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Under the supervision of the crisis counsellors, these volunteers assist with intakes from uniformed police officers, agency and self-referrals. They provide crisis intervention to victims of crime and referrals within their community. Volunteers assist on the telephone or attend the scene as requested. Volunteers may also, at times, assist in fundraising events and community outreach.

Community Consultative Volunteers
A key element of community mobilization is an effective and efficient level of consultation between the police and all community stakeholders. Consultation is the vehicle by which the greater community and the police exchange information about issues and concerns facing them.
Consultative members offer their time free of charge to aid the Toronto Police Service in achieving their goal of a meaningful partnership between the community and police.
